Wooden mountain house with snow on the roof in winter

Winter changes everything up here. The paths disappear under a metre of snow, the terrace turns into a sun trap at noon, and the stove never goes out. If you have only ever visited in summer, this is a different hut.

Snowshoes at sunrise

The marked snowshoe trail starts right at the terrace and leads through quiet larch forest. Go early: the snow squeaks underfoot, the peaks turn pink, and you will probably have the whole slope to yourself.

The best table in winter is the bench by the south wall, with a blanket on your knees and a mug in both hands.

Sledges and the long way home

After lunch, borrow a toboggan at the counter and walk up to the Alm. The run back is groomed, wide and slow enough for children, and it ends right at the front door.

Before you go

  • Check the avalanche report at the counter.

  • Bring a headlamp for the walk back after dinner.

  • Reserve a bed early, winter weekends fill up quickly.
