Ridgehouse began as a herder's shelter and became a family kitchen. The stove has moved twice, the recipes hardly at all.

From herder’s shelter to hut kitchen
In 1974 our grandparents took over a small stone shelter at 1,850 m and put a stove in it. Hikers came for soup and stayed for the view, so a table became a room, and a room became a house.
Today three generations share the work. One of us bakes, one guides the hikes, one keeps the books, and everyone carries boxes up the path in spring.

Barley, potatoes, cheese and apples come from the valley. If it cannot be carried up by hand or by the little supply lift, it is not on the menu.

A hot stove, a long table and a bed under the roof. We would rather do a few things properly than offer everything.

Leave the mountain as it is
Our water comes from a spring, our heat from the wood we fell ourselves. Everything else goes back down to the valley.
